Are You Choosing a Career That Will Outlast AI?
We’re living in a world where artificial intelligence is automating everything — from customer service to content creation, from data entry to even coding. If you’ve been paying attention, you’ve probably asked the same urgent question a lot of people are asking:
“What jobs will still exist in the next 2 to 10 years?” And more importantly, which ones will still pay well?
Now, I don’t have a crystal ball. And after 10 years? Things get a little fuzzy. But we’ve still got some time to think, pivot, and prepare.
The 10 careers I’m about to share with you are based on real projections from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and in-depth industry analysis. I’m not making these up.
Each of these jobs pays six figures (or close to it) and—more importantly—relies on human qualities that AI can’t replace (at least not yet): empathy, critical thinking, judgment, creativity, and complex decision-making.
Let’s get into it.

1. Registered Nurse (RN)
💵 Median Salary: $77,600/year
📈 Projected Growth: 6% – 13%
Healthcare is one of the most human-centered industries. And Registered Nurses are at the heart of it.
They provide bedside care, administer medications, help patients through recovery, and offer emotional support in some of the toughest moments of people’s lives. You can’t automate compassion. You can’t replace that human connection with a robot.
Nurses are the backbone of hospitals and clinics. While tech may assist with monitoring or data entry, only a human nurse can recognize subtle emotional cues or reassure a worried family.
2. Nurse Practitioner (NP)
💵 Median Salary: $120,680/year
📈 Projected Growth: 28% – 31%
Nurse Practitioners go a step further than RNs. They’re trained to do many of the things doctors do: prescribe medications, manage chronic conditions, order tests, and diagnose illnesses.
What makes NPs irreplaceable is their ability to blend clinical knowledge with empathy. When someone’s in pain or afraid, they want someone who listens, understands, and knows how to help—not a robot screen asking scripted questions.
3. Physician Assistant (PA)
💵 Median Salary: $121,530/year
📈 Projected Growth: 27%
Like NPs, Physician Assistants are medical professionals who diagnose and treat illnesses, perform physical exams, and provide patient counseling.
And let’s be honest—AI can’t counsel patients. Not in the human sense. Yes, there are chatbots, but are they going to sit with someone who's terrified about their diagnosis and give them comfort? Probably not.
People still want to look another person in the eye when their health is on the line.

4. Physician / Surgeon
💵 Median Salary: $208,000+/year
📈 Projected Growth: 3% – 4%
Now let’s talk about the top of the medical chain.
Doctors and surgeons deal with the most complex medical decisions: life-or-death scenarios, emergency surgeries, nuanced treatment plans. AI may assist with data, but a machine isn't ready to cut someone open in the ER and make a split-second call when the unexpected happens.
Experience, intuition, and empathy are still king here.
5. Information Systems (IS) Manager
💵 Median Salary: $159,010/year
📈 Projected Growth: 16%
Switching gears to tech now. AI might be the revolution, but guess what?
It still needs human architects—and IS Managers are those architects.
They’re the ones who lead IT departments, plan upgrades, manage large-scale systems, and—most importantly—oversee cybersecurity. That’s not something you want to completely leave in the hands of a machine, especially with the amount of data breaches we’re seeing.
You need people who can anticipate risk, not just respond to it.

6. Software Developer
💵 Median Salary: $120,730/year
📈 Projected Growth: 25%
Yes, AI can write basic code. I’ve personally used AI to assist with coding. But full systems? Scalable applications? Strategic software that integrates with real-world human needs?
We’re not quite there yet.
Developers who understand logic, UX, and creative problem-solving are still needed. Especially those building more secure and ethical AI systems. The human mind is still at the wheel—for now.

7. Information Security Analyst
💵 Median Salary: $102,600/year
📈 Projected Growth: 32%
One of the fastest-growing tech jobs.
Cybersecurity threats jumped 38% globally in 2022—and companies are scrambling for talent who can stay ahead of it. Security Analysts monitor threats, protect sensitive data, and design defense protocols to prevent breaches.
Could AI assist? Yes. But will companies trust AI alone to protect millions of customer records, medical files, and financial data? Not likely.
8. Industrial Engineer
💵 Median Salary: $96,350/year
📈 Projected Growth: 10%
Industrial Engineers work in real-world environments—factories, supply chains, logistics hubs—optimizing systems for efficiency.
These are hands-on roles that require fast thinking and real-time problem-solving. You’re not just pushing buttons; you’re streamlining workflows across unpredictable conditions.
Even if AI helps run simulations, humans still make the final call in the field.
9. Sales Engineer
💵 Median Salary: $103,710/year
📈 Projected Growth: 6%
This is where tech meets people.
Sales Engineers have deep product knowledge and the people skills to explain complex systems to clients and help implement them. It’s not just about selling—it’s about building relationships and solving real problems.
AI can pitch a product. But can it build trust with a skeptical CEO or tailor a live demo in real-time based on shifting needs? Nope.

10. Construction Manager
💵 Median Salary: $101,480/year
📈 Projected Growth: 8%
Let’s wrap with something a little more physical—construction.
Construction Managers oversee the entire lifecycle of building projects: from budget and scheduling to on-site leadership and safety compliance.
One error in scheduling can delay a $10M project for weeks. A missed safety check could cost lives.
AI might help with planning, but companies aren’t about to let robots run million-dollar construction sites on their own. It’s too risky—and too human.
Final Thoughts: You Can’t Beat AI With Fear—Only With Skill
Here’s my philosophy:
“I can’t control something I’m afraid of. But I can learn about it—and prepare.”
The people who refused to learn the internet got left behind. The people ignoring AI now? Same thing will happen. AI is coming—with or without us.
But here’s the good news:
AI can assist. But only you can lead.
So, if you're planning your next career move—or wondering if your current job will survive the next decade—start here. These 10 roles aren’t going away anytime soon. And they pay well, too.
