In less than three years, I’ll be 50. I’m incredibly grateful that I’m not in the job market trying to chase down a fulfilling and financially stable career. Because if I were—like many women over 40—I’d be struggling. The truth is, finding a job that pays well, offers flexibility, and lights a spark in your soul gets harder with age. And when money is tight? It’s even tougher.


But here’s the good news: There are real opportunities out there designed for mature women who have life experience, reliability, and a solid work ethic. In this blog, I’ll walk you through 10 practical jobs and side hustles, complete with earning potential and where you can apply—most of which are remote and beginner-friendly.



1. Laundry Services (Yes, Really!)


Income: $15–$35/hour or up to $6,000/monthPlatform: Poplin (formerly Poppins), TaskRabbit, Handy

This isn’t glamorous, but it works. Laundry services are in high demand and profitable. You can use platforms like Poplin to get started or launch your own local business using Canva flyers and social media. Some pros earn up to $6,000/month!


2. Virtual Assistant


Income: $15–$50/hour (or more with experience)Platform: Upwork, Fiverr, Time Etc, Belay Solutions, Zirtual

As a VA, you’ll help business owners and entrepreneurs manage emails, calendars, social media, and more. Your maturity and organization skills make you a perfect fit.


3. Rent a Room in Your Home
